Chardham Yatra

Chardham Yatra is a pilgrimage tour in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, which involves visiting four sacred temples: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The pilgrimage usually begins from the holy city of Haridwar, and the route followed by most pilgrims is as follows:

Yamunotri Dham:

Yamunotri: The first stop on the Chardham Yatra is the temple of Yamunotri, which is dedicated to the goddess Yamuna. The temple is located in the Uttarkashi district and can be reached by trekking for about 6 km from the town of Janki Chatti.

Gangotri Dham:

Gangotri: The second stop on the yatra is the temple of Gangotri, which is dedicated to the goddess Ganga. The temple is located in the Uttarkashi district and can be reached by road from Yamunotri.

Kedarnath Dham:

Kedarnath:  The third stop on the yatra is the temple of Kedarnath, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located in the Rudraprayag district and can be reached by trekking for about 14 km from the town of Gaurikund.  

About Badrinath Dham:

Badrinath:  The final stop on the yatra is the temple of Badrinath, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is located in the Chamoli district and can be reached by road from Kedarnath. After visiting all four temples, the yatra usually ends back in the holy city of Haridwar. The entire yatra takes about 10-12 days to complete and is considered one of the most sacred and important pilgrimages in Hinduism. Chardham tour Package

Here is a day-by-day itinerary of the Chardham Yatra:
About Badrinath Dham:

Day 1: Delhi to Haridwar (230 km, 5-6 hours)

Start the journey from Delhi to Haridwar, one of the holiest cities in India, located at the foothills of the Himalayas. Upon arrival, check into a hotel and take a rest for the day.

Day 2: Haridwar to Barkot (220 km, 7-8 hours)

Leave early in the morning from Haridwar to Barkot, a small town located at the base of Yamunotri. En route, visit Kempty Falls and other scenic spots.

  • Afterward, you will embark on a long drive to Barkot, which is located at a distance of 220 km from Haridwar.
  • The drive takes you through the picturesque valley of Mussoorie.

Upon arrival, check into a hotel and take a rest.

Day 3: Barkot to Yamunotri and back (45 km, 5-6 hours)

After breakfast, drive to Jankichatti and trek to Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River.

  • On the second day of the journey, you find Jankichatti and trek for 6 km to reach Yamunotri.
  • You can take a dip in the holy hot water springs and perform puja at the Yamunotri Temple dedicated to Goddess Yamuna.

Later, trek back to Jankichatti and drive back to Barkot.

Day 4: Barkot to Uttarkashi Via Harsil (100 km, 4-5 hours)

Drive to Uttarkashi, a scenic town on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, and then visit the Prakateshwar Cave and other attractions.

After breakfast, you will proceed to Uttarkashi via Harsil.

  • Harsil is a picturesque village located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River.
  • Upon arrival in Uttarkashi, you can visit the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.

Upon arrival, check into a hotel and take a rest.

Day 5: Uttarkashi to Gangotri and back (100 km, 3-4 hours)

Drive to Gangotri, the source of the Ganga River. Perform puja at the temple and take a dip in the holy river.

  • This is the fourth day, you will drive to Gangotri, which is located at a distance of 100 km from Uttarkashi.
  • You can take a dip in the holy water of the Ganges and perform puja at the Gangotri Temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga.

Later, drive back to Uttarkashi and take a rest.

Day 6: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi (223 km, 9-10 hours)

Drive to Guptkashi, a small town located at the base of Kedarnath. En route, stop at Tehri Dam and other attractions.

  • After breakfast, you will proceed to Guptkashi via Rudraprayag.
  • Rudraprayag is the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers.
  • Upon arrival in Guptkashi, you can visit the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Upon arrival, check into a hotel and take a rest.

Day 7: Guptkashi to Kedarnath and back (32 km by road + 18 km trek, 10-12 hours)

Early in the morning, drive to Gaurikund and trek to Kedarnath, one of the most sacred shrines in India.

  • On the sixth day, you will drive to Gaurikund and trek for 18 km to reach Kedarnath.
  • You can take a dip in the holy hot water springs and perform puja at the Kedarnath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Perform puja at the temple and explore the surroundings. Later, trek back to Gaurikund and drive back to Guptkashi.

Day 8: Guptkashi to Joshimath (185 km, 8-9 hours)

Drive to Joshimath, a scenic town located at the base of Badrinath. En route, visit the Vishwanath Temple and other attractions. Upon arrival, check into a hotel and take a rest.

Day 9: Guptkashi to Badrinath via Joshimath and back (44 km, 3-4 hours)

Drive to Badrinath, the last and most important shrine of the Chardham Yatra.

  • After breakfast, you will proceed to Badrinath via the Joshimath route.
  • Joshimath is the winter seat of Lord Badri.
  • Upon arrival in Badrinath, you can visit the famous Badrinath Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Perform puja at the temple and explore the surroundings. Later, drive back to Joshimath and take a rest.

Day 10: Joshimath to Rishikesh (254 km, 9-10 hours)

Here you can also visit the nearby Mana village, which is the last village before the Indo-Tibetan border, and also drives to Rishikesh, a popular destination for yoga and meditation. En route, visit the Nandpraya.

On the last day, you will drive back to Haridwar/Rishikesh for departure.
